CTF Rules and Regulations





Eligibility

  • ✔ Participants will need a valid registration key for registration. Registration keys come with your ticket purchase from: BSides Adelaide Tickets.
  • ✔ Individuals are permitted to compete solo.
  • ✔ Teams are allowed, with a maximum of four (4) members per team.
  • ✔ All participants must possess a valid BSides ticket; failure to comply will result in forfeiture of any winnings.


Registration

  • ✔ All team members must have a valid ticket to participate in the competition.
  • ✔ A team must consist of a minimum of 1 member and a maximum of 4 members.
  • ✔ Teams must register all members prior to the competition's commencement.
  • ✔ Each team should designate a captain responsible for communication with organizers.
  • ✔ Registration must be completed using a valid email address.
  • ✔ Each participant can only be part of one team; no cross-team participation is allowed.
  • ✔ Teams are responsible for ensuring their members comply with competition rules and guidelines.
  • ✔ Any changes to team composition must be communicated to the organisers before the event begins.
  • ✔ Unsportsmanlike conduct, including collusion with other teams or sharing answers, is strictly prohibited.
  • ✔ If a team is found violating the rules, the organisers reserve the right to disqualify the team from the competition.
  • ✔ The decision of the organisers is final, and any disputes must be raised in a respectful manner.
  • ✔ Have fun, collaborate with your team, and enjoy the competition!


Code of Conduct

  • ✔ Participants are expected to maintain integrity and sportsmanship throughout the event.
  • ✔ Any attempt to attack or exploit the CTF infrastructure, including Denial of Service (DoS) or Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, is strictly forbidden and will lead to immediate disqualification.
  • ✔ The use of automated tools to solve challenges is prohibited.
  • ✔ Collaboration between different teams is not allowed.
  • ✔ Registering multiple accounts or teams by the same individual is prohibited.


Competition Rules

  • ✔ Participants may only interact with challenges in the manner intended; exploiting unintended vulnerabilities in the CTF platform or challenges is not allowed.
  • ✔ Flags must be submitted through the official platform within the allotted time.
  • ✔ Points are awarded based on the difficulty of challenges; the team or individual with the highest score at the end of the competition wins.
  • ✔ Don't attack other teams or the contest infrastructure for any reason. The target is clearly stated on the challenge description.
  • ✔ Don't use automatic scanners or tools that will generate a large amount of traffic on the network. We reserve the right to temporarily (or permanently) ban you in these cases.
  • ✔ Don't ask privately for hints; specific hints to solve a challenge will be only posted publicly in the challenge description and in the Discord announcements. No hints will be released for already-solved challenges.
  • ✔ Sharing of flags, hints, solutions or whatever information regarding the challenges between different teams is prohibited.
  • ✔ Flags are in the format flag{l33t_5tr1ng} except if specified differently.
  • ✔ On each challenge, the name of the author(s) is specified. If you have any questions (not hint requests), please contact the author directly and do not post questions in the public channels.
  • ✔ If you don't know whether something is allowed or not (probably it is not), contact us before doing it.
  • ✔ If you find any bugs in the infrastructure, please contact us on Discord, we might give you an award.
  • ✔ BSides Adelaide may modify rules at any time and disqualify teams breaking the rules. Organizers' decisions are final and can not be contested.


Technical Requirements

  • ✔ Participants are responsible for their own hardware, software, and internet connectivity.
  • ✔ Ensure a stable and secure environment to participate effectively.


Privacy and Data Protection

✔ Participant information will be used solely for competition purposes and will not be shared without consent.



Disqualification

✔ Violation of any rules, unethical behavior, or interference with other participants will result in disqualification.



Amendments

✔ Bsides Adelaide reserves the right to modify rules; participants will be notified of any changes prior to the event.
